About Energy Democracy Y’all
Energy democracy means local people having a voice in how their electricity is produced and sold and it’s about ensuring that everyone has access to affordable and clean power.
For more than a century, our energy systems have been dominated by large utility companies with monopoly control over the market. These companies have a profit motive to keep us dependent on polluting fuels like coal and fracked gas and to keep increasing the cost of energy for families and businesses.
But across the country, people are standing up to demand a seat at the table with decision makers to ensure we transition to an energy system that is affordable and fair, provides community wealth and jobs, and is built on clean, renewable energy.
